Ayato seems to be a mature and flirtatious character from his promotional art.
When Ayato transforms, he wears a large red cavalier hat decorated with a long white feather, His hair falls free and his eyes are accented by red kitsune-esque eye makeup. He also wears a long red coat trimmed with purple and decorated with black squares. His shirt is a black turtleneck with a white ruffled cravat. His pants are white while his waist is decorated with a red cloth belt, a loop of rope, and feathers on his right hip.
- Ayato is named after the Roppongi train station in Tokyo, the 4th stop in the Hibiya subway line.
- The red-and-blue lory (Eos histrio) is a small parrot endemic to the Indonesian island of Karakelang. Two subspecies - one from Sangihe (E. h. histrio) and another possibly from Miangas Island (E. h. challengeri) - are thought to have gone extinct due to deforestation. The only surviving subspecies (E. h. talautensis) is currently listed as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List, with an estimated population of 5,500–14,000.
- It is unknown which subspecies provides Ayato's DNA and powers.
