"Believe In Yourself! Romance on the High Seas!" is the eighth episode of the 2022 reboot of the 2002-2004 original anime.
Synopsis[]
Lettuce is convinced that the only thing she's good at is being bad at everything! But a soiree on the high seas may provide Lettuce the opportunity to prove herself wrong.
Plot[]
At Café Mew Mew, Lettuce openly declares that she'll be more productive around the cafe, which surprises her worker peers. Lettuce then recounts all of the positive traits of her co-workers and tries to be as proactive as them, but fails, which scares off a couple of troublemaker customers.
Later, Lettuce is depressed over the incident from earlier. Then both Keiichiro Ryo announces that the cafe will be closed for the weekend and they'll have it off. As for why it's because Keiichiro and Ryo will be hosting a party on a Tokyo Bay cruise ship featuring their desserts. Ichigo and Pudding then demand that they come along on the cruise ship ride, and Ryo begrudgingly allows it. Eventually, Ichigo informs Aoyama about her cruise vacation that weekend, and he then talks about the hundreds of species in Tokyo Bay. Aoyama also expresses his desire to visit the place with her one day.
On the day of the cruise, Pudding introduces her younger siblings, and Keiichiro notes that he has a special treat for the group. As the ship shoves off, Lettuce becomes seasick and reveals that she can't swim. When the announcement about the main event starts soon, Ryo has the girls get dressed in special dresses just for the occasion. When the girls are allowed to eat the desserts, one of Pudding's siblings finds that the one he wanted is already gone, so Lettuce offers her. However, the boy notes how she won't have any. Hence, Lettuce splits it in half, and Pudding thanks her, noting that Huacha moves at his own pace. Keiichiro then starts to play the piano, and Ichigo spots Ryo in the crowd, who approaches her and takes her onto the dance floor to dance with her. They stop midway when Ichigo realizes she was reacting as if she has feelings for him. On the ship's deck, a flustered Ichigo reflects on her interaction with Ryo and how she's committed to Aoyama then Ryo.
Once the party was over, Lettuce insisted on sorting the dirty plates. After she does, one of Pudding's siblings unintentionally pulls the tablecloth, causing the two stacks of plates to wobble. Lettuce then completely pulls away the tablecloth to prevent this from happening, and it draws applause from the crowd who watched the scene as it unfolded.
Outside, Lettuce reflects on how she messed up again and noticed a light emanating from the sea. Ryo then approaches Lettuce and asks what has her so depressed. Surprised that Ryo knew, he claims that it was written all over her face, and he offers his magic juice to help calm her down and leaves her be.
Unbeknownst to the two, Pie and Tart were there, and Tart planned to launch an attack on the cruise ship while Pie would merely observe the attack. Tart throws an enzyme ball into the sea, infecting the sea creatures around the cruise ship to transform into Chimera Animas. On the deck, the Mew Mew group spot Pie and Tart hovering in the sky, noticing that they're different from the other Alien they encountered before. Despite the absence of Lettuce, the rest of the Mew Mews transform and fight against the Chimera Animas. As Tart amusingly watches the scene unfold, Pudding confronts Tart and gets into an argument with him until a Chimera attacks four of her siblings. Pudding then rushes to their aide and rescues them.
Meanwhile, Lettuce who was still inside the ship, finds Huacha calling out to his sister, but is pulled into the water by one of the Chimeras. Although Lettuce wants to rescue Huacha, her fear of not drowning keeps her from helping him; hence Ryo gives her words of encouragement that allowed Lettuce to overcome her fear. Leaping into the water while transforming into her Mew Mew form, Lettuce locates and uses her Lettuce Lutanettes weapon against the Chimera that had Huacha to rescue him. Furthermore, Lettuce manages to purify the contaminated area, and with the combined efforts of Zakuro and Ichigo, they defeat the remaining Chimeras. Despite their failure against the Mew Mews, Pie calculates their chance of success next time would be 92%, and before leaving, Tart provokes the Mew Mews.
On the ship's deck, Pudding embraces Huacha and thanks Lettuce for rescuing her younger brother. Lettuce then thanks Ryo for the magic juice he gave her, but Ryo informs Lettuce that it was regular orange juice and the magic was a placebo effect. He also advises Lettuce to have more faith and confidence in herself for the future. And Lettuce displays this when they start working again at the café. A while later they manage to acquire a piece of a Mew Aqua crystal.
