"Let Cupid's Arrow Fly! The Super Secret Date Scheme!" is the nineth episode of the 2022 reboot of the 2002-2004 original anime.
Synopsis[]
Mew Aqua can turn the tide of battle against the Chimera Anima, but finding it won't be easy. What else isn't easy? Spare time to spend with Aoyama, in Ichigo's case!
Plot[]
A friend of Aoyama gives him a couple of tickets to a popular band's concert with the intention of him going to it with his girlfriend. Elsewhere, Ryo shows the Mew Mew's, the power of Mew Aqua. Keiichiro explains that it's the same crystal substance that purified the contaminated ocean water from their last battle. The Mew Mews are then formally assigned to find more of it and are given plausible locations where more of it could be found. Because Lettuce was able to sense it, it's figured the rest of the Mew Mews could as well.
That night at her home, Minto is greeted by her older brother Seiji. He informs her that although she didn't win the Business Proposal contest, one of the judges was a friend of their father's. Said judge wanted Mint to recruit her for the school they head that trains leaders for the future. Despite the proposal being beneficial for Mint's future aspects, she's hesitant to agree with it as it involves studying overseas for three years. In Ichigo's room, she talks to Masha about how the jobs they'll undertake as Mew Mews will become more complex. Ichigo also notes that her time with Aoyama will be shorter, but hopes to talk with him the following day.
The next day, Ichigo is part of a large crowd that observes Aoyama's kendo matches, and she's soon joined by Miwa and Moe, who asks about her relationship with Aoyama. Having to leave for her part-time job at the Café Mew Mew, Aoyama then approaches her and learns that his concert tickets were in his uniform pocket. Avoiding that subject, Aoyama asks what her cafe is like, and as Ichigo explains it, a group of girls approach him, and Ichigo runs off to work.
Meanwhile, on the alien's spaceship, Tart complains about wanting to go on another mission, but Pie claims they can't as Quiche isn't there. Back to Ichigo, she receives a group text from her co-workers that they'll all be busy and will be running late for work. Ichigo held down the fort at the cafe for some time until her co-workers arrived to help out. Soon, Aoyama arrives at the cafe, and although he intends to ask Ichigo to attend a concert with him, he misses his first chance. To make matters worse, Pudding spotted the tickets and told Lettuce about them, which spread to the other Mew Mews. Leaving without offering Ichigo to attend the concert with him, the Mew Mews ask Ichigo to buy milk for them. As Ichigo does this, the rest of the Mew Mews plot to have Ichigo meet with Aoyama so he can ask if she'd like to attend the concert with him.
Thanks to the efforts of the Mew Mews, they manage to get Aoyama and Ichigo to meet up with each other. However, before Aoyama could ask Ichigo to attend the concert with him, Quiche interrupts their meeting and transforms a nearby lizard into a Chimera Animas that attacks Aoyama. After being knocked into the water after trying to protect Ichigo from harm, Ichigo uses this opportunity to transform into her Mew Mew form and try and defend against the Chimera's attacks. Ultimately, they're encased within a crystal casing created by the lizard. After Ichigo returns the envelope containing the concert tickets to Aoyama, she uses her StrawBell Bell to try and break the casing. As Aoyama watches Ichigo attempt to break the casing, he asks her who she is and why she's doing all of this for his sake. Speaking sincerely, Ichigo claims that if she weren't performing her Mew Mew responsibilities, she'd be spending more time with Aoyama. At that moment, Zakuro, in her Mew Mew form, breaks through the casing, freeing the two, and is accompanied by the other Mew Mews. With the rest of the Mew Mews now in the area, Quiche summons a couple more Lizard Chimeras, and through the combined efforts of the Mew Mews, the Chimera Animas were defeated. Lamenting that he wanted to ask Ichigo out, Quiche says his goodbyes and promises to step up his game from there on out.
Once Quiche leaves, the Mew Mews high tail it out of the place, and Ichigo later returns to Aoyama, who asks if she'd like to attend a concert with him, and she accepts the offer.

- In the 2002 original anime, Mew Aqua first appeared in Episode 19 and the season one finale by further empowering Retasu and Ichigo with even higher evolutions/transformations and access to even more extraordinary abilities. In Ichigo's case, its final fragment had affixed itself to the Mew Aqua Scepter, enabling Ichigo to perform the Mew Aqua Drops attack at one point.
- At minute 9:48 of the episode it can be seen when Ichigo is taking the order of three people in the background while Masaya Ayoma watches her, that in the middle of them there are two people, one person who can be seen from behind who has Mint Aizawa's hair color and cut in the 2002 Mew Mew power series.
