Sakura Momomiya (jpn. 桃宮 さくら Momomiya Sakura) is one of the supporting characters in the manga and anime series Tokyo Mew Mew.

Appearance and personality

Sakura is a youthful-looking woman whose age is unknown. Her cherry red hair is styled into a bob that frames her face. She has fair skin and large brown eyes. Sakura and her daughter look incredibly similar to each other.

She is bubbly, cheerful, and easily excited, much like Ichigo. Sakura was aware of Ichigo and Masaya Aoyama's relationship before her husband, Shintaro, was. Unlike Shintaro, who instantly disliked Aoyama, Sakura was fully supportive of him dating her daughter.

Etymology

• The name Sakura means "cherry blossoms, decoy" (さくら) in Hiragana. When written in kanji, it could possibly mean:
  • 桜 – "cherry blossom".
  • 咲良 – "blossom" (咲) (saku) and "good, virtuous, respectable" (良) (ra).
• Sakura's surname Momomiya means "peach" (桃) (momo) and "temple, shrine, palace" (宮) (miya).

Trivia

• Sakura is unaware that Ichigo is a Mew Mew.
• The reason for Sakura does not mind Masaya and Ichigo's relationship is that, when Sakura was around Ichigo's age, she began dating Shintaro. However, her own father was like Shintaro, and very strict. She ultimately tried to fight her father to allow Shintaro to date her.
