"Smile, Mint! A Fancy Lady, Forlorn!" is the fifth episode of Tokyo Mew Mew New; the 2022 reboot of the 2000s original anime.
Synopsis[]
Devastated that her longtime idol rejected her, Mint is broken and therefore has difficulty in dealing with the new Chimera Animal sent by Quiche. The leader Ichiro, along with Retasu and Bu-Ling, try to understand the exact reason for Zakuro's adamant disinterest and refusal to complete their superpowered quintet, for without whom the Mew Mews can never be at their very strongest.
Plot[]
At the Café Mew Mew, Mint attentively performs her duties, which shocks Ichigo, Lettuce, and Pudding. But, Ryo and Keiichiro assure the girls that they need Zakuro to join their cause, and to accomplish that, they'll need Mint in top condition.
At Daikan Junior High School, Ichigo sits on a bench by the courtyard and is soon approached by Aoyama, who asks her what's on her mind. Ichigo tells Aoyama about how concerned she is for a friend of hers, which Aoyama finds to be respectful. The conversation takes a bit of a turn when Ichigo accidentally reveals that she has a part-time job at a cafe. Once that cat was out of the bag, Ichigo decided to visit Mint and said goodbye to Aoyama.
Walking down a pathway by a river, Mint walks her dog Mickey and reflects on Zakuro refusing to join the Mew Mews. At that same time, Ichigo, Masha Lettuce, and Pudding all visited Mint's home, which turns out to be a large mansion. Moments later, Mint arrives, and Ichigo informs her that they all thought it'd be nice to hang out with her. Mint shoots down Ichigo and Lettuce's suggestions, but when Micky wants some water, Mint opens the gateway into her residence, allowing Pudding to break in and perform some of her tricks. In doing this, Pudding activates the water sprinklers in the area, causing the girls to become wet from the water. Mint's older brother Seiji turns off the water sprinklers and asks if the girls they're Mint's friends. However, Mint claims they're not and are about to leave, but Seiji refuses as they'll catch a cold if they don't dry off and demands that Mint invites them inside.
Inside Mint's home, the girls, now dressed in new clothing, make themselves comfortable in Mint's room as they apologize for intruding. Although Mint lets the girls know they're only allowed to stay until their clothes dry, Seiji, accompanied by a maid, serves them a tray of various desserts. Seiji then formally introduces himself to the girls and learns they're his sister's co-workers at the cafe. After Seiji thanks them for watching over his sister at the cafe, Mint kicks him out of her room. Seeing that Mint got upset just as she usually does at the cafe, Ichigo then starts a pillow fight, which lasts until they're all exhausted. A smile appears on Mint's face, which makes Ichigo and the others happy, but Mint is embarrassed for showing weakness. Ichigo and the others reveal their sibling backgrounds, but Mint admits she's treated like a child at home. She goes on to explain her parents' background and how she hopes to one day work for her father's company. Despite her mature plans for the future, Mint hates that her parents and brother treat her as if she were a child. Mint goes on to confine her respect for Zakuro, how she became a Mew Mew in the first place, and her realization of Zakuro's true personality. Ichigo and the others try to cheer Mint up, claiming they'll somehow convince Zakuro to join them.
At that moment, a strong gust of wind blasts through the windows of the room, and when it dies out, Quiche appears and asks Ichigo to go on a date with him. She refuses, and so, Quiche transforms Mickey into a Chimera Animas. Meanwhile, Zakuro walks down a street all while drawing attention to herself and reflects on when the Mew Mews thought she'd join them, but she rejected. Back at the mansion, the Mew Mews transform. Although they're forced to fight Mickey, they considerably hold back due to Mint's affection for Mickey, and in the end, Mint uses her weapon to purify Mickey. Quiche then grabs Ichigo and tries to take her away, but Mint threatens him with her weapon, demanding that he let her go. Reluctantly, Quiche does so and, noting how troublesome the number of Mew Mews there are now, claims he'll get rid of Zakuro before she joins the group and takes his leave. Just then, Seiji arrives and asks if everything is alright. The girls back in their mundane outfits assure him everything is fine; they were playing with Mickey.
Afterward, at Café Mew Mew, Ryo and Keiichiro are updated about Zakuro being targeted and order the Mew Mews to help the endangered Zakuro.
