Vol 1 — Tokyo Mew Mew Olé! Volume 1 Cover

Tokyo Mew Mew Olé! (or Au Lait) (東京ミュウミュウオーレ Tokyo Myu Myu Ore) is a Tokyo Mew Mew spinoff manga series written and illustrated by Madoka Seizuki and featuring a new all-male Mew Mew team. It was first released in Nakayoshi's January 2020 issue on November 30th, 2019.

The series will follow five high school boys, Aoi Shibuya, Shizuka Yoyogi, Ryusei Kanda, Taichi Hiroo, and Ayato Roppongi, as they protect Tokyo by transforming into "Mew Mews" alongside female lead, Anzu Hinata.

It is currently unclear if Tokyo Mew Mew Olé! fits into the continuity of the original series or if it is an alternate story. When the editor of Nakayoshi magazine was asked if any of the original characters will appear in this spinoff, the only answer they gave was, "That's a secret.". As of the time of writing, there is no official English translation of this manga.

Trivia

The title of this manga is a play on words; First is the Spanish word "Olé!" (meaning "Bravo!"), which connects to Aoi's "Adios Amigo" catchphrase. "Au Lait" (pronounced "Oh Lay") is a French term meaning "with milk" that is used often in the titles of milk-based drinks and desserts which keeps with the series' patisserie-theme. Both "Olé!" and "Au Lait", when pronounced in Japanese, sounds similar to the Japanese personal pronoun 俺 Ore. This pronoun is used to refer to oneself, like "I" or "Me", but in a masculine way, denoting the new male cast. Despite it being a pun on all 3 words, the Japanese creators chose "Tokyo Mew Mew Olé!" for the English version of the title.
The series' main characters all follow a certain naming pattern, similar to the original series; main female characters are named after fruits (e.g. Anzu meaning 'Apricot', Natsume meaning 'Jujube fruit) while the main male characters are named after train stations in Tokyo (e.g. Aoi Shibuya being named after Shibuya Station)
- Aoi and Ryusei are named after stations in the Ginza Subway Line; Shibuya is the first stop, while Kanda is the 13th stop
- Taichi and Ayato are named after stations in the Hibiya Line; Hiroo is the 3rd stop, while Roppongi is the 4th stop
- Shizuka is the only character named after a station in the Chiyoda line; Yoyogi-Uehara and Yoyogi-Koen are the 1st and 2nd stops respectively
